A child of the ’70s and a product of the ’80s, I grew up on Cosmos and National Geographic Specials. Childhood access to my father’s Canon AE-1 sparked a deeply ingrained passion for the lens that has yet to let up. I saved enough for my own Pentax K1000, affording me the freedom to shoot when and where I wanted to.

After many years studying and training as a classical percussionist with teachers from Juilliard and Eastman, life in a van seemed too good to pass up. I taught myself guitar and spent the better part of seven years on the road with my band from Brooklyn. While living out of a Ford Econoline and starting up an IT firm, cameras went with me everywhere, including the time I took a year off and co-managed an organic CSA in the Hudson Valley where I could take advantage of the celebrated light.

I gave up life on the road as a musician and farmer, but continued to travel and photograph in Rwanda, Ireland, Scotland, England, Canada, and 44 states in the US. After 25 years spent making ones and zeros dance, I moved to Oakland where my passions coalesced into a career in photography.

When in the field, I bring positivity and a relaxed attitude, but I still wear my New York directness and focus on my sleeve, which helps get the job done well and on-time. When not wielding cameras, you’ll find me hiking and camping, practicing the dark art of mixology, adding peaks to my 46er list, or riding a motorcycle to nowhere.
